Minister of Health Hon. Associate Professor ‘Amelia Afuha’amango Tu’ipulotu initiated a review

Minister of Health Hon. Associate Professor ‘Amelia Afuha’amango Tu’ipulotu initiated a review of procedures in efforts to mitigate any risks of COVID-19 being introduced at Fua’amotu International Airport.

Working with Civil Aviation Tonga and key stakeholders such as ATS, MAFFF Quarantine, Ministry of Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Immigration, Palu Aviation Services, Ministry of Police, Tonga Airports Limited and others, some changes have been agreed upon for approved flights to repatriate passengers.

The public and departing passengers are kindly advised of the following especially for Air NZ flight this Thursday 23 April. The following are subject to change:

1. Check in will commence earlier than usual at 10:30am. ATS will assist here and ask that passengers arrive as early as possible and to keep social distance.
2. Only departing passengers are allowed at the terminal. Therefore, only departing passengers are to be dropped off at the terminal.
3. TAL has marked where departing passengers can stand in the queue. This is to ensure social distancing.
4. Follow TAL directions as you progress from the queue outside into the check in area.
5. The departure cards will be distributed while you are in the queue to lessen congestion inside the check in area.
6. Once check in is complete, staff will direct you into the Security area to Immigration. You cannot go back outside once you have checked in.
7. Please ensure your carry on does not weigh more than 7kilos as there maybe a penalty for this and we cannot move overweight carry on bags from the cabin to the cargo hold.
8. Once in the departure lounge, please use the seats and avoid those marked X. Families or those traveling with children may sit together.
9. Please expect that boarding will take longer. It will be staggered to allow social distancing.
10. If, at any time, you feel sick, please let the staff nearest you know so that a health official will be informed.

We thank you for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience caused. These are unprecedented times that require changes and your understanding.
