Tonga Multi-Hazards Risk Communication and Community Engagement Strategy 2024-25
Tuesday 13 August 2024 - Tonga Ministry of Health launched a national strategy to guide officials in effectively communicating risks, engaging communities, and addressing false or misleading information before, during, and after health emergencies. The Strategy produced in March 2024 which was launched by the Acting Chief Medical Officer for Health, Dr. Sisilia Fusi Fifita, and it is the first of its kind in the Pacific. It clearly identifies roles and responsibilities of parties involved, along with ready-to-use templates to facilitate timely and clear communication and health interventions. The new Strategy demonstrates the Ministry's commitment to proactively preparing for and responding to a range of hazards, including natural disasters and disease outbreaks, to which the country is particularly vulnerable.
